Welcome

KJ Training and Consulting works with the Australian heavy vehicle and logging industries to provide education and training aimed at professional truck drivers and log harvesting contractors and support staff.

Our main focus is to provide education and training which promotes safety at work through dynamic, tailored content.

For truck drivers, this includes provision of information and skills to maintain concentration, avoid ‘autopilot’ on longer trips, and address factors which lead to complacency.

For logging contractors, this includes education regarding mental health and wellbeing, including: stress management, the impact of mental health on physical health and relationships, and how to adapt to a changing industry.

KJ Training and Consulting works in close collaboration with Australian Trucking Safety Services and Solutions (ATSSS) to provide a comprehensive training package with the aim of reducing the likelihood, and frequency of, truck crashes and rollovers, and to optimise the mental wellbeing of harvesting contractors.

About

Kirstin Pincott – Director and clinician

I am a Social Worker with a background in mental health, alcohol and other drugs, palliative care and health care social work. I was previously an accredited lead facilitator for the Vicroads Safe Driving Program, and am currently an accredited member of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

I have been training truck drivers since the beginning of 2017, focusing on the effects that fatigue and recreational drug and alcohol use can have on driving behaviours, as well as on the way our brains work and how to maintain focus on a long haul drive.

I also provide tailored mental health support and education to the heavy vehicle and logging industries, to assist to deal with increased stress and industry change.

I work in strong collaboration with Alan Pincott of ATSSS, often combining our skillsets to deliver a comprehensive training package involving the external factors such as road conditions and changes in load, and the internal factors such as fatigue and concentration that influence truck rollovers and crashes.

Program Options

Professional Freight Task Management program

This half day program includes the Truck Rollover refresher program, in collaboration with Alan Pincott from ATSSS, and administered by AFCA. Expressions of interest can be made via:

The Professional Freight Task Management program is delivered by Kirstin Pincott of KJ Training and Consulting and Alan Pincott of ATSSS. It provides information about alcohol and other drugs, sleep and sleep hygiene, and discusses factors such as optimism bias (a tendency to believe one is less at risk of experiencing a negative event compared to others) and trip planning, to illustrate how our brains focus attention during long haul trips, and how to take control of these trips for a safer outcome.

Fatigue and Sleep Hygiene

A 90 minute, face-to-face program providing psychoeducation about sleep, the dangers of fatigue and the importance of good sleep hygiene. This can be run for truck drivers, loader drivers, light vehicle drivers and administrative and management staff.

Alcohol and Other Drugs Awareness

A 60 minute, face-to-face program focused on parties in the Chain of Responsibility under Heavy Vehicle National Law. This session provides an overview of the legal requirements of employees and employers under CoR; as well as an educational, harm minimisation approach to alcohol and other drugs awareness. This can be run for truck drivers, loader drivers, light vehicle drivers and administrative and management staff.

Recommendations are made during this training for personal health promotion, as well as how businesses can support their staff post-detection.

Clinical Services

Consultancy

Consultancy services can focus on assisting your workplace adjust to change and develop mental health and wellbeing strategies and support structures for staff and clients.

Supervision / debriefing

Clinical supervision offered for social workers, therapists or counsellors who want to engage with a supervisor with a breadth of knowledge, and a flexible, client-centred approach. I aim to help supervisees to unpack and uncover their individual practice style, challenge themselves to learn more about themselves and their practice, and to prioritise their self-care and work/life balance.

Debriefing support can be provided to workers who may require a regular and formal method of support. This can be especially useful for workers in peer support type roles, or co-ordination, who work with distressed people without formal welfare training and support.

Group and individual debriefing available.
